* For the following guidance face shields do NOT count as masks.  Anyone wearing only a face shield is considered to be unmasked.

As always, any individual who is symptomatic should quarantine until symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours or obtain a doctor’s note explaining ongoing symptoms that are not caused by COVID (such as allergies).  Any individual awaiting test results should also continue to quarantine until results are known.  If an individual tests positive, see isolation guidance for positive cases on page 3.

As of January 6, 2022, the ISDH is utilizing the following definitions used throughout this policy:

Close Contacts

Academy, Manual, Watanabe

DORS

Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated students

Masked students within 3 feet of a masked positive individual for 15 minutes or more need to be made aware of their status as a close contact but parents may opt-out of quarantining if they monitor students’ symptoms.  Students who opt into quarantining should do so for a minimum of 5 days while checking for symptoms.  Students must be screened for fever before returning to school each day.  If they become symptomatic they must immediately isolate pending testing results.

Unmasked students, those who were within 6 feet of an unmasked positive individual (lunch, band, snack, extra-curriculars, etc.) for 15 minutes or more, and those who were close contacts of someone outside of school are required to quarantine for a minimum of 5 days and monitor for symptoms through day 14.  They may NOT participate in athletics or other events requiring unmasking through day 10.  Students must be screened for fever before returning to school each day.  If they become symptomatic they must immediately isolate pending testing results.

If the student had COVID in the last 90 days they may be exempt from quarantine regardless of whether they were masked or unmasked around a positive individual.  Proof of the positive test result is required for this exemption.

Day 1 is the day after the exposure.  Students may return to school on day 6 and to athletics on day 11.

Regardless of masking, students who were within 3 feet of a positive individual for 15 minutes or more must quarantine for a minimum of 5 days and monitor for symptoms through day 14. If they become symptomatic they must immediately isolate pending testing results.

COVID - Positive students and adults

Must isolate for a minimum of 5 days from symptom onset (or day tested if asymptomatic) AND be symptom-free for 24 hours (or have a doctor’s note or negative PCR or Antigen test after day 5 if non-fever symptoms persist after day 5) before returning.  If unable or unwilling to mask properly at all times, the individual must remain isolated at home for full 10 days.  A face shield is not a face mask.

Students returning before day 11 are required to report to the office for screening before reporting to the classroom.  Students may not ride the bus until they have been cleared for symptoms by the office or day 11, whichever occurs first.

Students may NOT participate in athletics, may not participate in any activities while unmasked, and cannot be within 6 feet of another individual during meals until day 11.  Individuals must remain masked at all times, including during recess and outdoor activities where others may be unmasked until day 11.

Day 1 is the day after becoming symptomatic.  Individuals may return to school on day 6 if no symptoms persist and they remain fully masked at all times.
